Four Japanese-style cups, each glazed so one colour fades into another down the cup: Starry Sky Blue, deep blue into near-black; Coffee Gold, amber into brown; Sea Mist Green, soft green into white; and Shoreline Blue, coral into pale blue. The glaze is reactive, so no two come out the same. Yours will look a little different from the set in the photo, and from each other. That's the point.

At 220ml they're a good size for coffee - bigger than an espresso, smaller than a mug, about right for a flat white or a morning coffee. There's no handle, so you hold the cup in your hands and feel the warmth come through the stoneware, which is part of the pleasure of drinking this way.

They come in an understated navy gift box: a good thing to give someone with an eye for this sort of thing, and a better thing to keep for yourself. Each cup is also available on its own, if you'd rather pick a single colour.
